4 Ways to Use a Scrapbooking Software

Friday, December 2, 2011

I'm writing my very first review and hosting a giveaway as well! I received MyMemories Digital Scrapbooking Software to try it out and tell my readers about it. As this is a sponsored review (I received the software for free) I want to make it clear that my goal is to be completely honest and describe my true feelings about the product. I also don't know anything about reviewing so I'm just gonna do it the way I can as an amateur. However, if you looked for a review because you can't decide if this software would be the right one for your needs, I want to do my best to make your decision easier.

I was working with MyMemories Suite 2, but the 3rd version came out just today and I'm still upgrading the software as I write this. I'm excited to check out the upgraded version, so I'll probably end playing reviewing it until morning! I must admit that I hardly knew what scrapbooking was when I first heard about MyMemories. Naturally, I didn't think I would ever need that kind of software. But I browsed through their page and got interested. As I started using the software I have quickly realized that I can use it for much more beside scapbooking. So my reviewing goal was to find out if I could use the product for blogging purposes.

In short, MyMemories Suite is an award winning digital scrapbook software that is very easy and fun to use. It helps anyone create digital scrapbooks, cards, calendars, etc. without having to buy expensive programs and then learn how to use the software. You can enhance your scrapbooks with music, narration, video, or the Internet. The software is quite affordable ($40) and so are the separate digital scrapbooking kits if you wish for something a little extra.

Would you like to see what I made? :)

- some scrapbooking

I used Vintage Memories and Old Silhouette kits to make this. These kits are wonderful. I think I will use them a lot for my blog.

- a blog header and a border

I used vintage embellishments and Dirty Denim Monograms - you can get some of the kits for free, even if you're not using this software (hint hint).
However, this header may disappear soon because I have other ideas in mind. :)

 - a post divider

- and new giveaway collages

For this one I used Old Typewriter Monograms. I love these monograms and I think they will be great for my giveaway collages. I will continue to use MyMemories Suite for making collages because they are quick and simple to make. I'm also not as limited as I was with the software I used before.

What I liked
The software doesn't take much space on the computer, the installation is smooth and easy. I didn't need much time to learn how to use it - it really is simple. There is a lot to choose from the site itself, but additional kits aren't pricey - if you want something special (like I do because of my obsession with antique look :)).

What I didn't like that much
Some of the templates are a bit outdated, at least for my taste. The worst is 'word art' which looks the same as the one in Word we used when I was still in primary school. So... it couldn't look less professional. Fortunately, you can make your own 'word art' in seconds (although there could be more fonts to choose from). It doesn't really matter how horrible the default 'word art' is, I just don't think that anyone would use it, so probably no one would mind if it would be removed - together with outdated papers and embellishments. I did like some of the 'word art' that was a part of specific themes, like "Marry Christmas" (I'm making it up) but you can't change it to "Marry Xmas", for instance (at least I didn't find a way to do it). Of course you can search for the font and write it yourself, but it takes some time.

What I loved
- the simplicity
- the staff  is great to work with, they really make it user-friendly on every level
- the blog and other social media, where you can find tutorials, fun weekly challenges, giveaways, freebies, unexpected promotions etc.
- I had so much fun and I can't wait to use the software again to make some new designs for my blog
- some of the kits are so wonderful
- I would recommend it to anyone who does digital scrapbooking or would like to create something similar to what I did
